Norwegian car carrier player Wallenius Wilhelmsen has reached an agreement to take over the terminal operations at Sweden’s Gothenburg port from February 2026.

The Oslo-listed company said its aim is to develop Scandinavia’s largest port for vehicles, acting as an integrated supply chain partner and transforming the terminal into a one-stop shop for all carriers and customers.

A newly established, independent special purpose company will operate the vehicle and roro terminal. As part of the 12-year concession, Wallenius Wilhelmsen has committed to investing nearly €6m to modernise the terminal’s areas, buildings, and infrastructure.

“Operating the Gothenburg terminal strengthens our logistics network and is a strategic milestone that supports our vision of sustainable and innovative growth,” said John Felitto, chief of operations of logistics services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

Gothenburg Port’s vehicle and roro terminal has two quay positions, 240,000 sq m of terminal space, rail connectivity, and pre-delivery inspection facilities. In 2023, nearly 270,000 new vehicles were handled in the port, accounting for 37% of the total Swedish market.
