Houston-based oilfield service giant SLB has been awarded a series of drilling contracts by Shell to support energy development across its deep- and ultra-deepwater assets.
The scope of the contracts will include digital directional drilling services and hardware, logging while drilling, surface logging, cementing, drilling and completions fluids, completions, and wireline services on assets in the UK North Sea, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Gulf of Mexico among others.
The projects, which will be delivered over a three-year timeframe, will combine SLB’s AI-enabled digital drilling capabilities with its expertise in ultra-deepwater environments.
SLB has already begun providing services to Shell for the contracts. Each project will be managed centrally through SLB’s Performance Live centres.
This is the second deal for SLB with an oil major in under a month. The company recently won a contract from Petrobras for integrated services across all the operator’s offshore fields in Brazil.
Under the contract, estimated at around $800m, SLB will oversee the construction of more than 100 deepwater wells, utilising advanced drilling, cementing and drilling fluids technologies on up to nine ultra-deepwater rigs.
