Malaysian provider of subsea digital infrastructure solutions OMS Group has revealed it would be adding more cable-laying vessels to its fleet.

The company announced a request for proposal (RFP) for the construction of two next-generation vessels.

This comes several months after the Kuala Lumpur-based outfit, backed by US investment firm KKR, booked a series of newbuilds at Dutch builder Royal IHC. The first vessel from that series will be delivered in 2027.

“This initiative represents a significant step forward in our fleet expansion plans, addressing the increasing global demand for robust and efficient subsea telecommunications infrastructure. We invite shipbuilders and maritime technology providers to participate in the RFP process,” the company said.

The company currently lists a fleet of five cable layers and a pair of cable lay barges on its website, together with three AHTS vessels and one chartered in OSV.
