The Indian government has met dockworker demands and managed to avert a nationwide strike at its ports, which was scheduled to start tomorrow.

Government and unions shook hands on a revised wage agreement and a productivity-linked reward scheme, avoiding a strike that would have hit 12 ports on both coasts of the the world’s most populous nation.

A previous pay contract expired in December 2021 and wage negotiations had failed to deliver a result in the intervening years.
