The initial sales reported in the dry bulk sector in 2025 show some price resiliency against what remains a depressed rates environment.

Nicholas Inglessis-led Alberta Shipmanagement has conjured up a significant profit with the sale of the 300 m long Panoramix newcastlemax. Alberta Shipmanagement sold the 2007-built, 203,000 dwt ship, named after the druid character in the Asterix comic series, for $28m to Shanghai Ruikeda Shipping with the vessel already rechristened Uranus 2. Alberta Shipmanagement had picked up the vessel a few years ago for just $18m. Alberta Shipmanagement has quite a playful attitude to ship names – among other vessels in its diverse fleet are familiar children’s characters Popeye, Dumbledore, and Lorax. English readers of the Asterix series of comics will know the Panoramix character as Getafix.

Brokers also note that another Greek outfit, Minerva Marine, is attempting to sell the 2008-built newcastlemax Sikamia to Chinese interests for $29m.

Several brokers also report the sale of a ship that had been on lease to Hong Kong´s Wah Kwong. Minsheng Financial Leasing has sold the 15-year-old 81,000 dwt, Universal-built Ru Meng Ling to Silk Searoad Maritime of Greece for $15.4m.
