Piraeus-based dry cargo and tanker player AK Shipping has snapped up its second vintage handysize bulker of the year.
Its latest purchase is the 2006-built Miltiades II, a 30,500 dwt workhorse added from Athens-headquartered PL Shipping. No price tag has been attached to this deal.
In September, AK Shipping made another vintage move, securing the winning bid for the open hatch, 32,900 dwt Ultra Tronador from Ultranav. Splash understands that this ship was sold for about $5m, a discounted price as its special survey and dry dock are due.
In smaller sizes, AK Shipping is known for its activities in the Black Sea region. In October, its ship, the 32-year-old, 6,900 dwt general cargo vessel Paresa, was struck by a Russian missile in the port of Yuzhny. At the time, the ship was ballasting and scheduled to load corn.
