The Eagle S, the Russia-linked tanker at the centre of the latest cable cutting incident in the Baltic, will not be able to leave Finnish waters for some time having massively failed a port state control.

Finnish authorities said yesterday they found 32 faults on the ship, three of which are deemed severe enough that the vessel has to get them repaired before it can move again. One of the ship’s anchors was recovered from the seabed earlier this week.

The incident involving the Eagle S is the third case of damage to critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea in just over a month, while in Asia, Taiwanese investigators are pursuing a similar investigation after a Chinese ship took out cables linking the island with the US over the weekend.
