Yemen’s Houthi movement said over the weekend that it targeted the 2,500 teu Groton containership on Saturday, the first ship strikes for two weeks in the region.

The attack happened some 225 km southeast of Aden in the Gulf of Aden.

A security official on the CMA CGM-operated vessel said a missile struck the vessel, but “no fires, water ingress or oil leaks have been observed,” according to a statement from the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center.

The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC), a multinational coalition overseen by the US navy, said all crewmembers onboard were safe and the vessel was reported diverting to a port nearby.
