The Energy Dream Team

The issue: President-elect Donald Trump has wasted no time in assembling an American energy prosperity dream team to get to work once he takes office in January.

Why it matters: The choice of North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum as energy czar and Secretary of the Interior is an excellent one. Trump’s pick of Chris Wright, who was a pioneer in the American Shale Revolution, as Energy Secretary is equally significant. These are perfect choices to get domestic energy rolling again.

Add in New York Congressman Lee Zeldin to head the Environmental Protection Agency and you have an energy trifecta. As this op-ed points out, there are three things that remain from the Biden administration that Zeldin should scrap immediately.

This trio, if they adopt TEA’s Common Sense Energy Agenda as a starting point, will take America down the path of Affordable, Clean and Reliable energy.

Consider:

  • American natural gas is the affordable, reliable and clean standard for all energy. Any mention of clean energy without both affordable and reliable is just another green-at-any-cost scheme — a fool’s paradise if you will. It simply doesn’t exist.
  • Energy affordability and reliability will result in a cleaner environment. Clean energy sources alone are unaffordable and carry a human toll. Batteries, wind and solar are linked to China and the Congo and offer horrific examples of child and forced labor.
  • Stove-top natural gas is considered clean and safe and it has been in our homes for a century. It should be the standard by which all other energy is measured.
  • Several states have already implemented some form of Natural Gas is Green legislation, namely Ohio, Tennessee and Louisiana. Others should follow suit.

Trump’s selections will help change our energy policy and directly benefit millions of consumers, who overwhelmingly voted for change. This can be driven at all levels — federal, state and local. It must be accompanied by a “Build, baby, Build” formula of building more pipelines, natural gas-fired power plants and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals to accommodate increased production.

Bottom line: Trump’s cabinet nominations for energy roles have been nothing short of spectacular. The ‘Energy Dream Team’ will go to work day one with the goal of making American energy more affordable, reliable, clean, and secure.

The issue: Sound energy policy reduces costs and improves the standard of living, despite what climate alarmists claim, calling it “a wrecking ball” to global climate diplomacy.

Why it matters: Earlier this year, Chris Wright’s company, Liberty Energy, published a document detailing how sound energy policy can improve lives. Here is a 10- point summary. In reality, it’s a far cry from the predictable rhetoric and apocalyptic end to the planet that the fear mongering green crowd loves to cite.

Liberty Energy, a few years ago, called out popular outdoor clothier North Face for its hypocrisy. It built its brand making products that come from natural gas and oil.

We know that natural gas and oil provide abundant, low-cost energy that keeps America moving and our lights on. They also provide the base ingredients for everything from plastics to fabrics and over 6,000 household items and other products.

Climate change is a global challenge. But it is not the world’s greatest threat to human existence.

Listen to Wright speak about the fact that tornadoes are on the decline. We agree with his assessment that “media and politicians continually abuse facts” regarding climate change.

Consider:

Despite the hype surrounding renewables, wind and solar fall woefully short of providing the demand for electricity generation. It’s not always windy or sunny.
Restoring American energy dominance is a key to prosperity for all of us.

Bottom line: Fear mongering and alarmism are practices that green activists embrace. They’re based on emotions, not facts. An energy agenda that leads with affordable, reliable and clean natural gas will make lives better, our nation safer and prices lower.

Poetic justice? As we get closer to 2025 and the second inauguration of President Donald Trump, gas prices are moving closer to where they were when he left office the first time. The national average for gasoline fell another two cents over the past week and is now at $3.06 per gallon. For what it’s worth, Americans were paying about $2.50 per gallon when Trump’s first term ended and it’s unlikely that prices will fall another 50 cents over the winter months.

Nothing on the calendar next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday! Happy Thanksgiving from the TEA family to yours.

“My dedication to bettering human lives remains steadfast, with a focus on making American energy more affordable, reliable, and secure. Energy is the lifeblood that makes everything in life possible. Energy matters.”

— Chris Wright, nominee for U.S. Secretary of Energy
